MIRABEL DESIGNS FAR OUT COVER

Congratulations, Mirabel!

We are excited to share the news that our 2021-22 yearbook will feature an out-of-this-world cover designed by our very own Mirabel.

Mirabel is a student in Lynne Gallo’s fifth-grade classroom. This is the first time – at least as far as anyone can remember – that a student has designed the yearbook cover.

Mirabel was the winner of a schoolwide contest that drew about two dozen submissions. We whittled the submissions to four finalists and then let students vote on the winner. The other finalists were Clara, a fourth-grader in Emily Kilby’s class who entered two designs, and Catherine, a sixth-grader at the middle school. Besides putting Mirabel’s design on the cover, we will publish the best of the other submissions on the inside pages of the yearbook.

Our art teacher Angela Larsen incorporated the contest into her art classes. “Everyone was really excited about this opportunity,” she said. “We had a lot of entries and Mirabel’s stood out and really appealed to kids of all ages. Everyone was really excited by the whole process and is ready to do this again next year!

Mirabel can’t explain why she chose outer space as her theme. “I don’t know where I got the inspiration,” she said. “I just wanted to do it.”

Thanks, Mirabel.

P.S. We will begin taking yearbook orders in the spring.
